Welcome to the butterfly blog!
We had a very exciting start to the week, when Mr Fletcher, (who has taught at The Royal Ballet!) came to teach us to dance! He was rather fantastic, to see him dance with an exploding piano click here.
We became fierce warriors on the battle field! Some butterflies really showed their battle face!
The children followed his dance so well, and had a really great time!
It doesn't seem we took any more pictures from the creative day! It was ever so busy! The fantastic artwork that we made is hanging up over the computers, please stop in to see it!
Mrs Creighton took us on a story adventure, where we climbed through a trap door, crawled through a magic tunnel and arrived where ever our imagination took us!
Miss Whitelock took us straight to the jungle where we learnt some tiger rhythms and had a go at writing our own song.
The next day, we started this week's topic, which was the very hungry caterpillar! The author, Eric Carle, writes his own blog that you can see Here!
He also has a set of fantastic videos and galleries explaining how he makes his books, that you can find Here.
After learning the story, we wrote our own versions. The children have worked so hard on their books and are really proud of them! They should be popping up in learning journeys soon, so be sure to have a look!
After learning about the caterpillar's tummy ache, we made plates of unhealthy and healthy foods. We learnt all about how food changes in to fat if your body can't use it!

Then we made our own healthy food!
Yum, yum fruit salad! We cut all the fruits ourselves.
We squeezed the fresh juice out of the orange. We were surprised that juice didn't just come out of a box!
In the classroom, there was an investigation area with all the seed's we had planted.
Can you tell your grown up what has happened to the seeds? Which ones grew the best?
We needed somewhere to sell all the plants that we had been growing, and we needed to plant a nice garden so that the caterpillar would have somewhere to live.
We opened a garden centre, and the butterflies quickly got to work writing receipts and talking about
what they would need to make their flowers grow.
After all those busy jobs, it was time for maths. Some butterflies have been recapping the properties of shapes, talking about how many sides and corners a shape has, and learning some names of 3D shapes.

They played an active game, where Mrs Worrall gave the description of a shape, and the children had to run and jump on it!
Then we tasted our healthy fruit salad. It was full of nutrients that help our body fight disease! Our body doesn't make nutrients by it'self, so we need to eat the right foods to make our bodies work.
The butterflies talked about which fruits they did and didn't like. Lots of them didn't like the blueberries!
Yum yum yum!
Can you teach your grown ups to make a fruit salad? It's a much healthier way to get your sugar than sweets!
In PE, we have been practising throwing, catching and bouncing. We had such lovely weather on Thursday, that we could have our lesson outside!
They butterflies have been throwing balls in the air, and clapping before catching them during playtime! How many claps can you get to?
On Friday, the weather was not so nice, but we still got outside anyway!
While waiting for our grown ups to come and have a look at our learning journeys, we got the bikes out again! It is one of our favourite things to do, and lots of the butterflies are becoming much braver!
Thank you again to those who came to see learning journeys. We hope it was useful to see how far they've come in less than a year!
Next week is the last week of this half term! We're hoping to get into the garden a lot and hunt for mini beasts (bugs). It would help your butterfly if you got naming some insects over the weekend, and we will learn all about them next week.

Samuel told me he knew how to make fruit salad the other night at bath time and described it beautifully. he loved the cress experiment and told me all about the different climates, where the ones in the dark were hidden and what the results were and as instructed I dutifully went out and bought cress seeds so we can try it at home, apparently cotton wool was the best thing to grow it on!! the other night at bath time he told me about a " su fear" after me not getting what he was trying to say, in frustration he said " mummy its a mathematical word" "oh a sphere" I said. It made me laugh he could not say sphere quite right but he could say mathematical very clearly with such disdain. Bath time is definitely the place to learn what's been happening at school.
