Ribbit, ribbit!

 

Punch and Judy! We were very lucky on Monday to have a visit from some very talented Year 5 children who did a Punch and Judy puppet show for us. They showed us their homemade puppets and demonstrated how to use them. It was a great inspiration for the Butterflies, who later in the week made their own puppets and show.

 This week we have been learning about the life cycle of a frog.

Can you tell your grown up the life cycle and what happens to the frogspawn?

We have been making the most of the Spring weather and the children have had the opportunity to do more busy jobs outside. It is important for children to practice and consolidate new skills learnt both indoors and out. We are lucky to have such an accessible and safe outdoor area.

We found out that frogs like to live in ponds and lakes. We mixed our own paint to make the right shades of colour for the pond.

On our investigation table this week we have some frogspawn. We have been using our careful spotting eyes to look for changes in the frogspawn. It wasn't long before we spotted some changes and something swimming around with a tail.
Can you remember what it is called?

We will need to keep observing and telling our grown ups about any changes we can see in size, shape or colour.

Frogs in the pond! How many can you see? How many brown ones and how many green? How many is that altogether?

We have been doing observational drwaings of the signs of spring. Can you remember the names of the spring flowers in our playground?

Collecting natural materials, do they float or sink?

 

 We were on the hunt for a mini beast that leaves a silver trail on the fence....

 

 Aaaah here they are, 2 snails!

We have been using our imaginations this week and getting creative!

 

 We have supplied the Butterflies with a variety of different props to encourage them to make up their own role play and stories. Role play and story telling is an essential skill and requires a good vocabulary. By reading regularly to your child at home and playing language games such as Who am I? you can help to provide them with a wealth of vocabulary that they can use to imagine and create.

We have been tying, wrapping, and knotting string and wool and developing our fine motor control.

Sometimes we got in a bit of a tangle. We had to use our problem solving skills to work it out!

We have had a very busy week and enjoyed our outdoor environment.

Next week we will be learning about different animals-
They don't live on a farm....
They might live in peoples houses....
pets!

While you are busy this weekend ask your friends and families if they have any pets, how do they look after them?
Can you visit a library and find a non fiction book about pets?
Can you visit a pet shop- do they have any leaflets to read?


Tuesday- swimming for all butterflies, please ensure all earrings are removed and no tights! Please put swimming kits on your childs peg. Thank you.

Tuesday is our Literacy Evening. We really hope you are able to come. We will show you how we teach phonics and skills needed for children to become confident and happy readers and writers. If you have any questions you would like us to answer please come and see us.

Friday 2.45pm Learning Journey sharing. You should have received a letter inviting you in to sit with your child and share their Learning Journey.We hope you are able to come.  Alongwith the blog it will give you a clearer picture of what your child has been learning.  You are always welcome to look at your childs Learning Journey- during Stay and Play or at the end of the day. If you are unable to come into School please let us know and we will try to make other arrangements.
