This little butterfly went wee wee wee all the way home!

Sorry about the delay! Here is the story from last week in the butterfly class.

We started the week with a day on fireworks. Lots of children had seen some over the weekend and were all very excited to talk to us about it!

Giving the children exciting experiences does wonders for their writing, because it gives them something that they want to write about. Look how busy the writing table is!

The children have already started using their phonics in their writing. Everyone can sound out the initial sound, and lots of our children are starting to put their sounds in the right order. It's so lovely to see them using their learning :)

We should be redecorating the classroom soon with amazing blow paint fireworks pictures, and the absolutely spectacular glitter firework pictures the children made. We may have used our entire years supply of glitter, but they look fantastic!

We went outside and made fireworks patters with our ribbons. The children did a great job at jumping into different shapes, and are really starting to use the ribbons in interesting ways.  

After fireworks, we started learning about the three little pigs. That meant we looked at what things were made of, and talked about the pigs different houses. The children found it quite difficult to talk about materials so we're very thankful to the grown ups who looked at properties with their little ones this weekend!

Then it was tine to build our own houses. We went outside and got to use real hammers and nails like grown ups! The butterflies weren't shy and got stuck right in. We built tall towers with the giant bricks and thought it was very funny when they got taller than our heads!

We made houses out of match sticks and Plasticine. The Plasticine was really tough and we had to squeeze it really hard with our hands before we could use it! This was a really great lesson. Every one was so focused and really proud of their work. Some children went back at busy jobs to finish up their house. We love seeing children persevere and try their hardest to get something done. Well done butterflies! 

We painted houses at the messy table, and even drew them in the ICT suite. It was houses of every kind this week! I'm not sure about the Holly Blues, but we Red Admirals felt a bit sorry for the poor wolf. He just wanted his dinner and the pigs were so mean to him! So lots of the houses we made for for Mr Wolf.

In maths this week we started learning the names of 2D shapes. We were all pretty good at the four main shapes, and some children even went on to learn about shapes with 10 sides and 5 points!! We drew big shapes on the playground and played race to the shape, and made shape obstacle courses. Fun is the most important part of learning in the foundation stage.

The week has just rushed by! We are seeing the children's learning coming along in leaps and bounds now, don't forget to check your child's learning journey to see how much progress they've made in the last month.

I'll leave you with a musical puppet show. Looks like one butterfly wasn't best pleased with their performance though!
