The week Mrs Chandarana out-smiled the children.

This week was Diwali! We learnt about some of the different celebrations that different families have. 

Mrs Chandarana told us the story of Diwali, we learnt all about Rama and Sita, and Ravan who has ten heads! 

Mrs Lambert taught us what Eid means to her family. She showed us some of the special items that you have to wear in the Mosque and explained what they each mean. We are very lucky at Brookside to have so many people who can teach about their culture.

 Our busy jobs were all about these celebrations this week! We made Diwali cards, and diva lamps. The children really started thinking about what they wanted their work to look like before they made it. The results were very nice!

 

Some children have started playing at each others houses after school, which is wonderful! It really makes a difference to their friendships in school and how well they play together. We really recommend that you invite some of your child's friends round to play!

The butterfly legs have been rolling in this week. Well done butterflies for being so helpful! When someone gets six legs on their butterfly, they get a prize and get to blow a noisy horn!  

When lots of people get six legs at the same time it can get a bit noisy!

It is looking very autumnal in the butterfly playground! We had great fun collecting leaves and making leaf bouquets at play time this week. 

In our gross motor class we started learning our Diwali dance so that we could show off our moves when the grown ups came on Friday. Mrs Chandarana loves to dance!

Then we made fireworks pictures with match sticks and plasticine. Plasticine is really useful for building up strength in your little ones hands, and playing with it will help them to be a super writer!

In maths, we have been learning how to write our numbers. Once we had learnt them all, we went on a number hunt around the playground. Miss Bishop his the numbers very well and we had great fun running around collecting them on our clip boards.

Everything we did this week lead up to a very special Friday! We all came in in out party clothes and everyone looked fantastic! We started by making big Rangoli patterns with the whole class. First we had to stick the lolly pop sticks down using sticky glue. Miss Whiltelock got a bit worried and kept reminding us,  "DON'T WIPE YOUR HANDS ON YOUR CLOTHES!!"

 Then we filled the different sections with rice. We had to work together with our friends to make it the very best it could be. It wouldn't be very welcoming to Rama and Sita to have a sloppy Rangoli pattern on our doorstep!

 Once all our busy jobs were done, it was time to get dancing! Thank you so much to all the grown ups who got involved, and a special thank you to the Mummy who taught us some Bhangra dance moves!

Then it was time for our feast! We had so much food! The butterflies enjoyed sharing it with their friends and having a nice chat. Well done to those butterflies who tried a samosa, even if some of them did think their tongue was on fire!

We even had a special visit from Mrs Bruce, what a treat!

Thank you so much to all the grown ups who helped make this a very special day. It was lovely to be able to invite you into our class room, although we hope a lot more of you will come next time! 

We will hopefully we inviting parents to come and help in our classroom over the next week. You are all very welcome to come and see anything that we do in the butterfly classroom, just come and ask one of us and we will help you get things started!

This weekend, talk to your child about your families culture and the type of celebrations that you have. I look forward to learning about them all!
