Pat it and roll it and mark it with a 'B'

We had a very special treat in the butterfly classroom this week! Mr Bailey came in and told us all about his secret life as a baker! He wore his kitchen whites and had a big tall hat, just like the one we made at home! 

He had made a cake with his holly blue butterfly and showed us how to ice it.

He got into the spirit of the butterfly classroom and reminded us to show our 'thinking thumbs'!

He did some very clever icing in beautiful swirly patterns. A red pattern for the red admirals, and a blue one for the holly blues. Then it was out turn to do some icing! Mr Bailey made little piping bags for us by rolling grease proof paper. He filled them with brightly coloured icing that he has made at home.

We had to be very careful when we squeezed the icing out. Every body made a beautiful multi-coloured biscuit! 

At snack time we all had a taste of the cake that Mr Bailey had made for us. It was tricky trying to share it out evenly between us. We all thought the cake was delicious. 

We have carried on learning about autumn this week, and have been thinking about different woodland animals, especially hedgehogs. We had an investigation table in the classroom and we used non-fiction books to help us decide what was hiding inside it.

 We have been building homes for our clay hedgehogs out of junk materials. We learnt that hedgehogs like to live in dark, warm places, so we tried our best to make them a nice house. We didn't want them accidentally wondering into a bonfire pile. 

                                                     

We had a new role play area in the classroom this week! There were lots of big boxes that we could use to make woodland burrows. We had a lot of fun moving the boxes around and trying to make sure they didn't fall over! The spider costumes were a firm favourite for all the butterflies!

In our maths lessons, we have been working on; one to one counting, prepositional language and following more complex instructions. The children have been following long instructions to colour in work sheets. They have been doing very well!

Hopefully, you have all had a change to go on www.busythings.co.uk with the user names and passwords we sent home in a letter last week. The children have really been enjoying playing with it at school on the interactive whiteboards. They are very good at taking turns. We have even seen children playing at teacher asking others to do good sitting and show their thinking thumbs!

We have been having lots of fun in our PE classes! We have been concentrating on moving in different ways, such as crawling, slithering, jumping and running. The butterflies are getting really good at changing quickly, and the teachers are getting good at sitting on their hands and encouraging the children to dress themselves!

We've been making straight lines in our gross motor classes, there are all kinds of things you can do at home to help with this! Can you march like a solider? Can you balance on the edge of a little wall? Can you spell your name using sticks?

We have even been building assault courses in the play ground which encourage us to move in lots of different exciting ways. It was a lot of hard work to build something this fun, but we all worked together to make something great that we could share. Well done butterflies!

We're so pleased to see all of the hard work that you have been doing together at home! Reading diaries have been filled up, butterfly legs are flying through the door, and this red admiral even made a whole harvest basket out of tissue paper! Well done! 

Thank you for everything that has made this half term a success. We really hope that you have fun with your holiday home work. Mrs Worrall and Miss Whitelock can't wait to get started on their sock puppet! I wonder who is going to find the most interesting thing to put in their autumn bag? I'm looking forward to finding out when we get back!
