Autumn Adventures.

Hello! Welcome to this week's butterfly blog. All week we've been working hard learning about autumn. It meant we had lots of lovely outdoor adventures!

We went on a little walk on Monday morning to look around the playground for signs of autumn. We started talking about the seasons and the changes that come with autumn. 

This meant we were all ready to look for signs of autumn when we went on our big walk to the farmer's field!

We started at school, looking at the sycamore tree and watching how the sycamore seeds fell to the ground. Miss Whitelock found a little slug and we decided where to put him so he would be safe!

It took a long time to climb over the fence, but everyone patiently waited their turn while their friends had a go. It was a little bit tricky in our wellies, but we were really proud of all the butterflies for having a try. Some of the Mummies even had a go!

The field was full of wheat and straw. We had to look really carefully to find our favourite things to take back to the classroom.

  It was a very exciting journey, but all of the butterflies were really sensible and listened to the grown ups looking after them. Look at that lovely straight line! We found lots of exciting things on our walk like a big wobbly mushroom hiding in the middle of some tall tall trees! (I think that most of the pictures must be tucked away on the other camera. I will try and do another update in the week when I find them!)

There was a man in a big tractor chopping the grass in the school field on the way back. We waved at the big girls and boys at the high school and saw lots of our brothers and sisters. Even after a really big adventure, lots of children said this was their favourite part!

When we got back to school, it was time to start investigating all of the lovely things we found in the field. Look at that super duper counting! We can tell that the butterflies must have been working very hard at home learning their numbers.

The most important part of our walk was talking about what we liked and what we saw. This gives children the language to put in to their writing. We all wrote something on special autumn paper. We did some fantastic work which will go into our learning journeys to share with our grown ups. 

In our gross motor classes this week we looked at the way that leaves twist and swirl down from the tress. We got to pretend to be autumn leaves dancing about in the wind.

We got to make some clothes really wet and twist twist twist them until all the water came out and made a big puddle on the floor! This helps make our hands stronger so that we can write more easily. 

Mrs Harris and Mrs Chandarana have been working very hard with the butterflies to make the outside area look beautiful! Mrs Harris gathered all of the straw that we collected on our walk to the farmer's field and the children helped her make a scarecrow! We learnt a fantastic song about a dingle dangle scare crow. Click here to hear it. See if you can do the dance together!

The butterflies worked together with Mrs Chandarana to scoop the compost out of the bin and put it on the flower beds to help everything grow. There were lots and lots of worms in the compost! 

 

We have been talking about our feelings in key worker groups, and worked together to write a letter to a lonely lady in America. We thought about the things that made us feel happy, and our teachers helped us put these thoughts into whole sentences so we could write them down. We all wrote our name the best we could and drew some pictures to cheer up the lonely lady! Miss Whitelock will get them all posted at the weekend. Hopefully we get a response!

The children have really started making friendships and have been playing very nicely together! It's so important that we talk to our friends about what we are doing. The butterflies have made us very proud by being so kind to each other and understanding other people's feelings.

Another lovely week in the butterfly class! Thank you so much to all the grown ups that came on our walk! You really helped make it a success. We are carrying on our autumn work next week and will be looking at woodland animals. The teachers have been hard at work making a really exciting new role play.. get guessing what it might be!
