We've been carrying on our dinosaur theme this week! We're carrying it on next week as well, accumulating in an invitation to the butterfly museum! Look out for a letter coming home next week with extra details!
We started the week learning some facts about dinosaurs! Ask your butterfly if they can tell you about triceratops, tyrannosaurus, stegosaurus or brontosaurus!
The kinaesthetic learners went to the hall to do a dinosaur dance, while the visual learners had a quiz and some puppets!
The main event this week was the sunshine! We were so happy to have a nice afternoon that we all went outside on an adventure. Some butterflies used their gross motor skills to draw a GIGANTIC dinosaur!
We admired our work. A very creative job well done, with lots of talking about the different parts of a dinosaur.
We all decided to stay outside for the rest of the afternoon! Some of us sat around enjoying the sunshine, having a chat, looking at the insects waking up for spring and drinking our milk!
While other butterflies decided to get a little bit more active! It was very different from the scene at the beginning of the year where we had to persuade the butterflies to roll down on the mats! They were throwing themselves down, experimenting with different ways of moving, and having a blast! It's times like this where you realise how far they've all come in the last half a year.
We carried on our cooking this week, making ammonite sandwiches! We have been building up our cookery books, and by the end of term should have a host of recipes the butterflies can teach you!
We've been trying to increase the amount of opportunities the butterflies have to use ICT away from a computer. They had a blast digging for fossils with the construction bots!
We've been finishing up our dinosaur landscapes. The butterflies have really started taking care and pride in their work. These beautiful pieces of art should be on display in the museum on opening day!
We've been looking at weight in our maths lessons this week. We made our own salt dough using the scales to show the butterflies why we need to learn about weight.
Mrs Crighton and Mrs Chandarana decided they wanted to get busy and showed the children how to use their imaginations in the archaeology den to investigate the fossils. It's easy to forget that children have to learn how to play as well as how to work!
We had some real fossils to investigate in our classroom too! There were lots of questions to think about, like where did the dinosaurs go? Why did these dinosaurs change to stone? How come it's just their skeleton left?
The next day all of the butterflies disappeared and were replaced by ferocious dinosaurs! We decided to have a catwalk to show off our costumes. We all needed to work together to get the classroom ready. The butterflies gave us their ideas, and then set to work making the classroom beautiful! What super team work.

Off we go! Every butterfly had a change to stomp or crawl down the catwalk, and tell us something they had learnt about their dinosaur!
Thank you so much for all the effort you put into costumes. Everyone looked super, and the children had a blast!

After lunch, there was a surprise visitor! A little dinosaur had seen all the fun and decided to join the butterfly class! He has been leaving us messages in the morning and after lunch. I wonder if anyone has written back to him yet? He is probably feeling lonely there by himself this weekend.
We've been measuring lots of things in maths. Last week we measured length, this week we're measuring weight! The children have been weighing things to work out which things are heavy and which are light.
We've also been working on our number formation. Miss Whitelock's maths group were given a very special book to write in, but I promised them I wouldn't tell anyone about it! You will have too see if they will let you in on the fun!
Friday was a day full of treats! We started with a visit from a real life author. She showed us how she learnt to tell stories by using a bag of props. She had lots of different toys that she took out of her bag one at a time. Each time a new toy came out, she used it to decide what would happen next in the story. The butterflies gave some super ideas, and I'm sure that this is something you could do at home!
At the end, the butterflies who work with Mrs Harris showed Rose Impey the books that they had written themselves.
She was very impressed!

Then after a fantastically successful swim we had ANOTHER treat waiting for us! We are so spoiled by birthday butterflies! There was so much cake that we could have a big piece each. I hope your butterfly shared their treat!

Thank you again to all the helpers that we've had this week. Swimming went so well today because of your support. There were no tears, and everyone enjoyed playing with the pool toys, and splish splashing about!

loved the pictures of all the dinosaurs what a crowd! although i think samuel was more excited by the visit from the author, swimming and the cake!! sorry we missed the first part of the week, it has been a exciting and varied week for you all and yes i can't quite believe just how much he has learnt changed and grown in half a year. they are amazing. thanks team for all your work. angie
