Fossils and dinosaurs find them all in the museum!

On Monday we went outside and followed a dinosaur trail. We had to use our good listening ears to listen to the clues and think about where we needed to go. We all wrapped up warm and looked for dinosaur footprints in the snow!

 We explored all of the school grounds.

 Where were the clues leading us? Can you tell your grown up the places we went to around School?

 We ended up back at the Foundation Stage playground and look what we found next to the steps!

 We investigated them and decided they were Dinosaur Eggs!

Can you tell your grown up how we decided to look after them and where we put them? What do you think will happen to them?

 

 
While we were in the ICT suite we found a new whiteboard had been installed and the workmen had left a rather large box. The butterflies decided it would be great for our classroom. There was only one problem- how to get it back to the classroom?

 

 

 We worked as a team to carry and manoeuvre the box. We had to use our problem solving skills to think about getting it through small and narrow doorways and spaces.

 Left a bit, right a bit!

 Hurrah we did it! Great team work and problem solving.

 On Wednesday we learnt about the end of the dinosaurs. We talked about the different theories. Do you think it was a meteorite, volcano erupting or ice age?

 One of our busy jobs was to make our own volcano and make sure we got the lava at the top of the volcano. Good job it wasn't real red hot lava!

 We were very lucky to have a Mummy in to cook with the children. We carried on with our ammonite sandwiches with homemade fruit jam in the middle. We mashed together blueberries and strawberries.Yummy!

 Mud glorious mud! Some busy butterflies got busy making a large volcano ready for our museum opening on Thursday. They used tools and their hands to smooth and mould the mud to make the right shape.

 We need more mud! Some butterflies had the job of finding and digging up more mud supplies.

Brookside Museum is open!

 This butterfly is being a super museum curator and explaining the exhibits and giving facts about dinosaurs.

 Look at the eggs we found. Are they still warm in their nest?

 Look at the fossils. Can you remember the different types of fossils? This butterfly is using  a magnifying glass to investigate further.

 We did have a long queue at the ticket office! It was nice to see so many visitors.Thank you for being patient. Next time we will have two ticket offices. Having a ticket office was a last minute idea by the Butterflies.
Did you pay with pretend money? Maybe you could make your own museum at home with your dinosaur art work. Can you make some tickets, an open and closed signs with opening times and a price list? You could use anything as pretend money- buttons, beads..

 At the end of the museum we conducted an experiment. Miss Whitelock was our chief scientist. We had a volcano but it wasn't erupting. What could we do?

 The scientist added some very special ingredients- hot geyser water, dinosaur blood, meteorite dust and swamp water!

 We needed to add a little more, as one butterfly said "tip it all in!"

 Stand back everyone! It's erupting!

 On Friday we started preparing for our class assembly. Wait and see what these will be!

A really big thank you to all the grown ups who came to the Dinosaur Museum. It was a great opportunity for the children to share all their learning and be proud of their work. Thank you also for supporting Red Nose Day and Comic Relief. We loved seeing all the funny feet especially the homemade ones. As soon as we have a total of money raised we will let you know.

Next Friday is our Class Assembly at 9.15am in the hall. We hope you are able to join us. You should have received a letter about providing clothes for the assembly. Please do not buy anything new. If you are struggling please come and see us or put your name and request on the swap sheet in the cloakroom.
