We are making music!

 

 

 

 

 

 

As part of our mathematics  this week we have been consolidating our counting and combining 2 groups of objects. We did lots of practical activities-rolling 2 dice and adding both numbers to make spots on ladybird wings, playing bingo. We take our learning  outdoors and the children had great fun finding and counting the correct number of special items to make a magic potion.

 Music music everywhere! We have been composers, muscicians and audiences! The children have listened to a variety of music and had the opportunity to play with instruments-string, wind and percussion. The children wrote their own musical score and then performed it on the stage with some judges and a buzzer! We also composed and listened to our own music on a computer programme in the ICT suite.

 Carrying on with our learning objective of being more creative and independent when making things, we have been busy making lots of different instruments. We made kazoo's, shakers, guitars and drums. We practiced using our froggy fingers to rip the masking tape and paper to decorate the drums.

 Here we are extending our learning on castles- we wanted to make bows and arrows. It was a brilliant opportunity to go outside and use our muscles to snap the sticks and practice tying knots. Who remembered how to do it from last week?

 

 

Our fine motor activity this week was drawing lazy 8's, using smooth fluid movements and not stopping. We listened to Tchaikovsky whilst we did it.

 

 

 Look how focused and engrossed we all are.

 We then used very fine paint brushes and shades of blue paint to paint in response to the music from the snowman. We had to take care and really think about what we were doing. Our teachers were so proud of us that we put 2 marbles in the jar and our artwork has been displayed in the snug. Make sure you come and see.

 This Hollyblue is taking such care and has a clear idea of what she wants to do. Well done!

 Having a picnic in Mathematics. How many cucumber slices on the plate?

 Some of us have been working hard with Mrs Harris to learn about non-fiction books. We went to the school library to find some non fiction books and facts to answer our questions. What do you find at the end of a non fiction book?

                                                                      Making drums!

 Our water play this week had an icy feel and we had to investigate the ice to find what was hidden in there. What does ice feel like? Can you use some descriptive words?

 Writing our labels to go with our paintings. We used the handwriting patter to help us with neat writing and correct letter formation.

 Quick let's work as a team to make a ship! The children selected their own resourses and worked a s a team.

We finished off the week by building up our stamina bouncing and pedalling.

Next week- we are learning about Chinese New Year. Do you know what year it is?

Monday 9.00-10.00am Session 2 with the nurse on staying healthy, coughs, colds, head lice and minor ailments. It will be an informal session where you will have the opportunity to meet other parents and younger siblings are welcome. We hope you are able to come.
