Welcome back to the butterfly classroom! We hope that you had a lovely week off, and that your butterflies are happy to be back and getting busy!
This week we have been looking at bodies, bones and skeletons.
The Red Admirals have got a new favourite song in the "skeleton dance!" It's help us learn lots of body part names, like ankle and hips. Can you sing the song to your grown ups?
Some of the butterflies have been working had to make their bodies nice and strong in meaningful movement. It was their last week this week, here they are with their grown ups and their graduation certificates.

We started the week by talking about Richard the 3rds bones, and letting the children show us what they knew about skeletons.
Everyone made a skeleton in one way or another, and they all focussed so hard to get their work done.
We made a giant body shape on the construction carpet, and then used the bricks to fill in all of his bones, there are always new ways to use the same toys.
We read one of the funny bones books, and then we put together our own 'funny bones' man!
If you don't have a copy of funny bones to read together, you can have it read to you by a 7 year old here. How long until our butterflies can make videos like this to share with their friends?
We have been working a lot on going back and finishing jobs that we've started this week, and the importance of being proud of our work. Well done to the butterflies who came back to finish their red skeletons that they started in stay and play!
By the end of the day, the glue had started to dry and go a bit stretchy. Some of the girls thought it was very funny and had a good explore of the texture.
In P.E we thought about all of the different shapes that our skeleton can make!
What super balances! I wonder if any butterflies who came to PE with me can remember what a balance is?
Mrs Creighton's PE group got a bit more adventurous this week, and we finally got the blue apparatus out!
Look how high we can climb!
In maths we have started learning about length and how to measure things. We have been measuring how far the puppy has run from home by counting footsteps..
We measured lots of things outside and talked about if they were tall, or long, or short. We recorded our findings as we scrambled around.
then at busy jobs, the children used their new skills to measure all kinds of things! From giant crocodiles...

Despite the cold weather, we have still made sure to get outside as much as possible.
In phonics, we've been reading captions hidden in the outside area.. it's much more fun then just reading them off a bit of paper!
At playtime the children have been making magic brew!
Some children worked together as a team to build an engine! This was all their own idea, and they came up with some fantastic work.
Back in the classroom, we have finally started having a photographer of the day. One butterfly from each class gets to use a special class camera to take pictures of anything exciting that they see. The Red admirals have started learning how to put these pictures on to the computer, and soon they should be able to load their own pictures on to the blog!
At the end of the week things got a bit messy in the classroom... Miss Whitelock has always felt unhappy about getting her hands dirty. Some of the butterflies helped her get over her fear by doing a very messy painting! We used mud and smooshed up banana to make a messy swamp! It was very fun.

As well as just getting a bit messy!
Next week we will be learning about a different type of bones. Bones that people have found in the ground that teach us about animals that lived a very long time ago! I wonder if you can guess what our next topic will be?
Please make sure that your butterflies are coming to school in nice warm clothing, it has got a little bit chilly again!
Swimming won't be starting next week, due to unforeseen circumstances. We will start as soon as possible and will let you know any details as soon as we do.
Thank you for your support again, especially to the grown ups who came to the nurses session on Monday. Next week the session will be on the importance of independent skills. I really hope to see most of you there!

Samuel has loved the skeleton dance song and mummy is very pleased to hear you read a funny bones story this week as daddy and i had a little competition to see if you would or not and mummy won. i love the original and had dug it out to read to samuel - daddy is not such a big fan!! Samuel is not quite so excited about this weeks theme but we have had the plastic dinosaurs out today and played with them- mummy was a bit of a dinosaur geek when she was a little girl!! Samuel looked very proud of his certificate from meaningful movement when he was prsented with it. i am very proud of all his hard work at it and am glad we have done it these two terms!!
